March 21 – Witnessing the Dark: Seventeen Artists for Seventeen Public Lanterns

Lights and shadows between the ancient and the contemporary: a journey open to the future, in respect of the history and culture of the city of Siena. Seventeen contemporary artists have been invited to interact with seventeen historic public lanterns in the old town centre, searching for signs and traces between past and present. A project curated by Serena Fineschi.

A collective public art project, but also a new geography of the city — one that calls us to look more closely, unexpectedly, differently. The artists’ vision establishes a dialogue between light and shadow, illuminating a different Siena and offering a new experience, with a deeper connection to the urban fabric and the very soul of the city.
