montalcino guide sienaStarting at the powerful fortress built in the 14th century dominating the Unesco World Heritage Orcia valley, the walk will take you up and down alleys and narrow streets of the land of Brunello wine. We go down to Saint Egidio church, called the Sienese’s church and to the Civic Palace built at the end of the 13th century.  Then on to the 14th and 15th century loggia of People square, and up to the 14th century churches of St Augustine and St Francis, with their cloisters. We continue to the neoclassical cathedral built on top of a 9th century parish church, and then end with the good walkers at the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Rescue built in the 17th century.
It is possible to request a Brunello wine tasting or to visit the Civic and Diocese Sacred Art Museum housed in the St Augustine convent. The museum offers a wide and systematic collection which provides the chance to understand the development of the local artistic production from the Middle Ages through to the 20th century.
